About Us

The North Edmonton Wolverines were established in 2025.

The North Edmonton Wolverines was founded on a simple but powerful vision: to create a space where hockey players could continue to play the game they love—competitively and alongside their friends.

This vision was brought to life by Barbara Smyth and André Bourne, two passionate individuals who saw a need for something more than just another hockey team. They recognized that many young athletes were losing interest in the game—not because they no longer loved it, but because the environment they were in didn’t support their passion and growth. Barbara and André believed there was a better way, and together, they set out to build it.

What began as an idea soon evolved into the North Edmonton Wolverines, a Junior C team in the NorAlta Hockey League that stands for more than wins and losses. It represents a commitment to player-centered development, mutual respect, and the pure enjoyment of the game. The team was formed to ensure that many of the city's motivated and talented players could continue their hockey journey together. It was built to provide an environment where players feel valued, supported, and excited to show up—every practice and every game.

At the heart of the Wolverines is Head Coach André Bourne, whose coaching philosophy is rooted in passion, discipline, and care. André brings a wealth of knowledge and a relentless drive to see his players succeed—not only as athletes, but as leaders and individuals. His approach is built on trust, accountability, and the belief that every player has untapped potential waiting to be unlocked. He is more than a coach—he’s a mentor, a motivator, and a true advocate for his players’ personal and athletic growth.

Barbara, as co-founder and club manager, brings her own brand of leadership and heart to the organization. Her love for the game as a parent and community builder ensures that the team culture extends beyond the rink. She works to make sure the players have every opportunity to succeed, stay connected as a group, and enjoy the experience to the fullest.

Together, Barbara and André have created more than just a hockey team—they’ve built a culture. One that fosters friendship, fuels competitiveness, encourages accountability, and most importantly, create a space where players can continue to play the game they love, in the environment they're looking for.

The North Edmonton Wolverines are proud to be a team where players come not just to compete, but to belong.
